Faiza Abdurahman is originally from the Somali region of Ethiopia and speaks Somali, Amharic and Oromifa languages. She has lived in Australia for over 14 years.  Before coming to Australia she lived in Ethiopia for nearly 18 years where she finish her high school education and worked as a Somali interpreter.

In Australia she has studied Early Education and care, aged care and community care. She has also worked as interpreter, an aged care worker, childcare worker and community services.  She is well connected with new arrivals from refugee backgrounds and the refugee health sector. She has been part of the ‘Refugee Health Advisory Group ‘(G11) since 2023.

She is involved as a volunteer in the Somali community, including being on the board at Somali Community Association Queensland and has been involved in multiple presentations about engaging with families, mental health and health literacy.

She has a passion for assisting refugees and migrants, dedicated to working alongside them and providing support.
